NEWLY FORMED NUMERA ANNOUNCES VISUAL CADD,
2D DESIGN AND DRAFTING WINDOWS SOFTWARE PRODUCT
Developers of Generic CADD Provide User Programmable
Upgrade Path for 350,000 Generic CADD "Orphans"
Seattle, Washington, March 17, 1994. Numera Software Corporation today announced Visual CADD, a new Windows based 2D design and drafting package for professionals. Visual CADD features user programmability and takes full advantage of the Windows system. The package is scheduled to ship this summer.
Visual CADD will be particularly attractive to the 350,000 Generic CADD users who no longer have an upgrade path. Generic CADD's parent company, Autodesk, recently announced that it is not planning any future upgrades of the product. And Autodesk's new AutoCAD LT lacks many key features of the original Generic CADD product including its popular two letter command set and user programmability. Visual CADD is fully customizable with the help of any Windows language such as Visual Basic or Visual C++. It loads and saves all Generic CADD file formats and also offers the best AutoCAD DWG/DXF load and save on the market.
According to Kevin Cable, President and CEO, Numera is uniquely qualified to capture the Generic CADD market as its founders include key members of the Generic CADD development team. The group includes Peter Acker, Executive Vice President, and lead developers Matt Brown and Carl Ransdell.
Numera recently received an infusion of capital from a broad listing of both private investors and venture capital firms. Numera's Board of Directors includes: Chris Smith, Vice President of International Operations at Microsoft; Steve Duzan, Founder of Immunex; Tom Cable, General Partner at Cable & Howse Ventures; Michael Savage, President and CEO of Molecular Simulations, Inc.; and Scott Land, lead technology investor at First Marathon Securities.
Visual CADD is the result of hundreds of hours of discussions with current Generic CADD users. It is the first of several products Numera has in development for the CAD marketplace. The company expects to develop international versions of Visual CADD in the second half of the year.
